Landscape photography at your pace

This is a quiet morning in one of Scotland's most beautiful landscapes — shared with someone who photographs the area regularly and knows how to make the most of whatever the conditions bring.

We will focus on making the most of the conditions on the day, finding the best shots, and covering compositional and technical areas as we go.

How the morning unfolds

01
Meet & Settle In

We'll meet at the agreed parking location and have a brief conversation about what you're hoping to get from the morning and what gear you're working with.

02
Into the Landscape

We move to the first shooting location — a spot chosen for the conditions and the light that morning. No two mornings look the same.

03
Shoot & Explore

The bulk of the morning. Guidance on composition, light, and settings as we move — but at a pace that lets you analyse the landscape and take in the surroundings.

04
Wrap & Reflect

A brief review of what we captured, what worked, and what to try differently next time. You leave with images and a better sense of the area.

Locations within the Trossachs

The exact location each morning is chosen based on conditions, light, and what will make the most of the time. These are the spots we may visit.

Loch Achray
A small, sheltered loch in the heart of the Trossachs, often benefitting from calm conditions and lingering mist.
Loch
Ben A'an
A relatively easy climb and enjoys impressive views of Loch Katrine.
Summit
Loch Venachar
A dammed loch featuring submerged trees and excellent forest views.

Ryan Curran
Ryan Curran

I'm a Glasgow-based photographer who has spent the past several years exploring the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands — the Trossachs, Glencoe, Mull and beyond. Landscape photography is less about gear and more about patience, light, and knowing where to stand.

These experiences grew out of a simple idea: that the best way to learn to see photographically is to be out in a place that demands it, with someone who can help you slow down and notice.

Frequently asked

Do I need to be an experienced photographer?

Not at all. This experience is designed for anyone with a camera and a genuine interest in the landscape — beginner to enthusiast.

What camera do I need?

A DSLR or mirrorless camera is required for this experience — I'll ask about your kit beforehand so we can make the most of your setup on the day.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Some of the best landscape photography comes from weather normally considered as 'poor'. That said, there are conditions which will make the experience particularly unpleasant or unsafe, including torrential rain and/or gale force wind. If this situation arises, we will discuss the best next steps and the experience will either be rearranged or refunded.

Can I bring a second person?

The experience is designed as a 1-2-1 session to maximise value for participants, with exceptions included for individuals providing support or care.

Where exactly do we meet?

We will meet at an agreed location which will be discussed prior to the experience.
